Fibromyalgia is a condition little understood by the medical community. What has been agreed upon is that this condition causes the pain signals received by the brain to be much more intense than normal. For example, one may encounter a minor pain stimulus, but the brain thinks that there is a major amount of pain. Some symptoms experienced by those with fibromyalgia are:
- Extreme exhaustion
- Widespread pain throughout the body
- Irregular sleep patterns
- Cognitive problems referred to as brain fog
Those with fibromyalgia can get up to 10 hours of sleep at night and still wake up feeling unrefreshed. Caring for fibromyalgia can be quite difficult. A survey was taken of 14,000 patients with fibromyalgia, and they reported that the following are some of the more common ways to care for this condition:
- Changes in diet
- Increasing exercise
- Medical marijuana
Patients are trending toward more natural ways of coping with fibromyalgia such as diet, exercise, relaxation methods, and other techniques that do not rely so heavily on drugs with potentially dangerous side effects.

The Natural Fibromyalgia Solution – Upper Cervical Chiropractic
Here at our Taylor, Texas practice, we understand the delicate relationship between the brainstem and how it interacts with the body. We also see a connection between brainstem function and how the brain perceives pain in patients who have fibromyalgia. We feel the root cause of the problem actually lies with a misalignment in the bones of the upper neck.
If the C1 is out of place, it can put pressure on the brainstem. This causes signals from the body to be hindered on the way to the brain. They may become amplified. Also, misalignments can affect blood flow to the brain, another factor in fibromyalgia occurrence.
We work with our patients to find the exact location of the misalignment and then use a very gentle and safe method to help the bones move back into place naturally. Once this issue is corrected, the brainstem can function normally, and fibromyalgia symptoms may decrease or go away altogether.
